Since the creation of Snow White in 1937, the Disney franchise has continued to flourish with the creation of more princess movies. The first four princesses created were: Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, and Ariel. The success of these movies was because of the enchanting stories of the damsel in distress being saved by her prince charming, which meant they lived happily ever after…
Snow White was an ordinary character forced by her stepmother, the Evil Queen, to do manual labor and chores because the Queen did not want her to become more beautiful: the fairest of them all. By dressing up in disguise, her stepmom offered her a poisoned apple which she graciously ate. Upon falling into a sleeping trance alone, she is saved when a prince finds her and plants a kiss on her lips. The magic kiss from the prince woke her up and they lived happily ever after!
After being left in the care of her stepmother when her father passes away, Cinderella is forced to become the maid for her two stepsisters and stepmom. Thanks to her fairy grandmother, she is transformed into a beautiful girl who becomes worthy enough to attend the prince’s ball. When the prince sees her at the ball, their eyes meet as they dance and he has chosen her to be the one. Although she must return home before the clock strikes twelve, the glass slipper that she left at the ball eventually guides the prince back to her. Once the shoe fits, they get married and live happily ever after!
After being born, Aurora was cursed by an evil fairy who claimed that she would die before her sixteenth birthday by pricking her finger on a spinning wheel. The only way she could be saved from this curse was if she was kissed and saved by Prince Phillip, who had been betrothed to her when she entered the world. When she randomly meets the prince and falls in love with him, she learns about the curse and pricks her finger. Alas, the prince saves her life by kissing her. She is woken up by the magic of his kiss and they live happily ever after!
As a mermaid in the sea, Ariel sees a prince drowning and saves him… After asking the sea witch, Ursula, if she can turn her into a human so that she can be with Prince Eric. Ursula promises that she will turn Ariel into a human, but only if she gives up her voice. Ariel is given an ultimatum that she must make the prince kiss her and fall in love with her within three days, or she will belong to Ursula as property forever. Prince Eric ends up killing Ursula when he figures out her plan and the spell on Ariel is broken. King Triton saves the day by using his magic to turn Ariel into a human. Finally, Ariel and Prince Eric share a kiss and they live happily ever after!
